How Did You View The Elders?
by minimus ini know some who truly believed they were "gifts in men".
they needed their approval and wanted to be well spoken of by them.. i know some who can't stand elders and regard them as pests, always looking for some dirt on somebody.. i know some who liked maybe one or two but regarded the majority as unqualified.. how did you view the elders??

15 If you are approaching the end of the schooling required of you, you may find yourself in good health and with few responsibilities. Have you seriously considered entering the regular pioneer ranks? No doubt, school counselors sincerely believe that it is in your best interests to pursue higher education and to plan for a secular career. Yet, their confidence lies in a social and financial system that has no lasting future. On the other hand, by pursuing a theocratic career, you will be pursuing truly worthwhile and lasting goals.
Compare this to the well known quote from 43 years ago:
Awake! 1969 May 22 p.15"If you are a young person, you also need to face the fact that you will never grow old in this present system of things. Why not? Because all the evidence in fulfillment of Bible prophecy indicates that this corrupt system is due to end in a few years. ... Therefore, as a young person, you will never fulfill any career that this system offers. If you are in high school and thinking about a college education, it means at least four, perhaps even six or eight more years to graduate into a specialized career. But where will this system of things be by that time? It will be well on the way toward its finish, if not actually gone!"
Of course most of those who did the University around 1969 are now retiring, if they have not yet retired.
For those currently working is states:
Many of God’s servants today work long hours to care for the basic necessities of their families. Yet, some may be working more hours than necessary. The commercial world is doing its utmost to convince us that we cannot live without its many products and every new model that comes on the market. But true Christians do not want Satan’s world to dictate their priorities.
And for those who have been able to retire and think they can start enjoying life, it continues:
As for those who have retired from secular employment, what better way to use their time than in the pioneer ministry?
I want to scream: CULT

Closing down of all non-native congregations in The Netherlands
by Gorbatchov inthis weekend serious sources told me that in the netherlands the society is closing down all non-native congregations.
because of the mixed population of this country, there are >100 non-native congregations like english, france, dutch-caribian, arab, chinese, italian, russian, spanish etc.. my source was backing the dissision of the society because "these non-native congregations are islands on their own, with group-thinking and not allways listening to the society..." and concluded "these non-natives has to learn dutch instead of we are learning their language".. strange: some years ago many jw's learned a foreign language (like arab or chinese!
) and now they are all closing down.

Now in compatibility mode:
When this thread was started, I checked with someone from one t=of the English congregations in the Netherlands and he confirmed this was not the case. However, upon speaking again with him recently, he told me that this was indeed the case! With exception of the three large cities (Amsterdam, Rotterdam and The Hague) the English congregations will be discontinued. Even in the main cities, the number of congregations will be brought back. We were aware of these changes sooner than the members of those congregations.

Was being a Ministerial Servant a Prerequisite for Marriage
by Pitchess Co-Gen ini'm asking this because when i was in ( disfellowshipped in 2009 ) some "sisters" wouldn't even look at you unless you had the title ministerial servant or worse elder.
i notice this when i was in because one of my friends thinks that by becoming a ms he could get the better looking witness girls.
tell me your stories of this..

Best answer to "What prevents you from getting baptized?"
by venusinfauxfurs inthe nosy elder at the congregation i attend until i can get out very soon (just quickly: born in, was headed towards unbaptized pub but changed my mind about that and baptism) pulled me aside and showed me the scripture about coming across the body of water and asking "what prevents me from getting baptized" and i really want a quick, preferably smart-ass reply the next time he puts me on the spot like that.. .
.
fire away!

The only example of an age for baptism being mentioned in the Bible is that of Jesus. He was 30, the age of being a legal adult back then.

Have you noticed that the Watchtower is not emphasizing how close the end is as much?
by stuckinamovement inmaybe i am off base, but it seems that the last year or so hasn't had the standard retoric about how "imminent, close, or soon" the end will be.
it seems as if the focus is now on obeying the governing body.
have you noticed this?.
